Happy Friday!
The final days of summer are coming to a meandering end. The lingering days are shortening and there is a slight briskness in the air, all hailing to the fact that fall is just around the corner.
We’re going to relish these last few moments of sunshine; pack our suitcases, trek out of the city and not look back. The mountains are calling and our little clan is answering loud and clear. “Let’s get the hell out of dodge”
We’re off to Mount Shasta for some quality time with just the three of us, a few trout and a huge stack of books. I’ll soon be signing off for the day.
Until Tuesday when responsibility rears its ugly head.
Happy Labor Day! Here’s to not laboring.
Decor Interrupted
Your regularly scheduled decor post has been interrupted to share pictures of Josie’s first experience with solid food. Note – for the design enthusiasts, it does include the Tripp Trapp.
I’ll let the pictures tell the story.
Bridge and Burn
Blame it on the San Francisco weather – Mr. Karl himself; blame it on my timid side; blame it on me being a cancer and this crab always wanting a shell….I am a jacket girl through and through. Take a scroll through my closet and you will find I have more than my fair share of jackets, followed by completely unnecessary fancy dresses.
Even though I have a plethora of outer shells, I am picky when it comes to purchasing. I find I tend to lean more classic with a touch of rugged – think Barbour (dream to own one).
While reading, The City Sage, I happened upon Bridge and Burn, a Portland based store that has got my jacket recipe down.
I am dubbing these jackets “so me.” If they are “so you” as well you can get them here.
Say it with Tile
Want your room to say something? Why not say it with graphic tile?

Adrianna Lopez House Tour
Popham Design
I have long been a fan of graphic tile! While traveling through Turkey four years ago, and basking in the splendor of patterned Turkish tile everywhere, I decided that one day I will live with graphic tile…be it a bathroom, a kitchen or a hallway…mark my words, there is graphic tile in my future. What do you think of the look?
Too Cool for Me
I’ve had the shopping bug lately but I haven’t bought much for myself. It has all pretty much gone to Little’s wardrobe. However, I have been admiring outfits from afar and I thought I’d do a rendition of “what I like but I’m not cool enough to pull off…”
A.) Zara’s Mini Skirt
What I want…
What I would want to look like…
What I would actually look like…
B.) Current Elliot Ranch Hand Overalls
What I want….
What I would want to look like…
What I would actually look like…
C.) ASOS Romper
What I want…
What I would want to look like….
What I would actually look like…
So should I risk looking like Richard Simmons, Ashton Kutcher or a baby and take the plunge with any of these? What trend have you or would yo do?
Tripp Trapp
Since little Monkey is now six months old, it’s time to bring on the solids. While the walls may soon be covered with avocado and things are about to get a lot messier, this is an opportunity to get a new piece of furniture…the highchair.
I have decided to go with the tried and true Stokke Tripp Trapp; it’s surely the only high chair that has wound up on the cover of House Beautiful.
House Beautiful
It does read a bit more modern than my usual taste but as far as high chairs go, this is by far and away the most stylish choice (in my mind).
Little Green Notebook
After great debate, I decided to go with the red one. As luck would have it, our local Right Start had one in their back on sale (it never goes on sale). So thrilled with our new stylish chair….I’ll share pics once it’s all put together and before it’s covered in that avocado.
Happy Friday!
Happy Friday, everyone!
Josie’s six month was a success. We had a great time doting on her, especially the grandparents…
She got all dressed up in a beautiful dress that was given to her by her Great Aunt and Uncle who live in Canada. I like to think she’s the only baby in the US with that dress. 🙂
I also took her six month as an excuse to set the table.
I brought her bunny rabbit bowl to Fluert and they whipped up the beautiful arrangement…I can’t take any credit for that beauty.
We’re off to the beach this weekend and we’re hoping for warm weather. I wish I could claim that this is what our beach house looks like….it isn’t; but, it still is my favorite place on earth.
Happy Friday y’all.
Happy Six Months
Today is Josie’s six month birthday. I can’t find the words to adequately express the love and joy that Josie has brought to our lives. Not only has she brought a sense of wholeness but also pure joy. She has the most amazing personality. She is very observant and there is little that gets past those big beautiful eyes of hers. She is quick to giggle and she loves it when we laugh back, convinced she is the funniest in all the land. She absolutely loves it when all eyes are on her; give her kisses on her belly and she will shriek with delight. She’s a chatty little one. She is always interested in meeting new people and she rarely needs to go back to home base for a cuddle. However, when she does need me, she buries her head right into my shoulder and gives me such love and warmth.
She is nourishing for the soul. In every way, she has made our lives more precious and meaningful. There isn’t a day that goes by where we aren’t blown away that we were able to have such a gift. She is here. And she is ours. Our lives are all the better.
Please enjoy this short video on our little sweetie.
We will be celebrating this momentous occasion with Josie’s doting grandparents at Crown & Crumpet. The cutest spot ever for tea…
Olive You
I really love Olives! Like LOVE them!! I can eat an entire can of black olives in about five seconds flat; I’ve had that talent since I was about four years old. If ever there is anything with olives on it on a menu, I’ll order it. In fact, I’ve got a bit of a drool going on just writing this post. Must get olives!
I also have the sweetest, dearest little niece named Olive. So clearly Olives are lovely in my book.
Actual Olive trees? Stunners. We have one in our front yard at home and it’s a beautiful tree that was always fun to climb on as a kid. Lately I’ve been noticing potted Olive trees indoors and I’m loving it. We won’t be getting an indoor Olive tree, as much as I would love to; pretty soon Ms. Josie will be a mobile and an olive is just the right size to get lodged in her throat. Not for babies. But for everyone else…take a gander, if you like, bring a tree into your own home.
An indoor plant probably will not produce that many olives (if any) and it probably would be out of Josie’s reach. But still with my black thumb, it would die a slow, sad death.
Happy Friday
A huge thank you to Apartment Therapy for including my work in your roundup story on desks as bedside tables yesterday.
I was in some great company in the roundup, such as Dayka Robinson Design; not only is she a fabulous designer, she is also incredibly sweet and caring. I had mentioned that I was looking for vinyl grasscloth options on Instagram and she went out of her way to give me a few new sources. This can be a very competitive business so it’s really nice when we can all help each other out.
Here is her cute room that was featured on Apartment Therapy:
My little West Elm desk that was our side table at our last apartment has now moved to our kitchen nook and we use it as our breakfast table. In fact, we use the West Elm desk as a table daily and the actual dining room table in our dining room rarely gets used. Isn’t that how it always goes?
