Rocking It

This is the first year that Graham and I can have a Christmas tree. The first two years of marriage, we lived in Chicago and so we were always home in California for the holidays. Last year, our place was so crammed there wasn’t a hope in hell a Douglas Fir was welcome into the mix. This year, watch out because we’re going to have a Christmas tree. I realized we don’t have any ornaments; I’m sure we’ll slowly build up a collection. However, this time round, our tree is going to be rocking these…

Oh yeah, about 100 cut out hot pink lucite pieces (I have many more then what’s pictured). How very 80’s of the tree. I found them the other day in a thrift store and I just couldn’t turn them down. I’m thinking of mixing them with disco ball ornaments to turn up the party factor.

Too bad I don’t have any transistor radio ornaments or zinc on a string to hang up. Oh the joy. What will your tree look like?

P.S. Check out my favorite thing over at Meet Me in Philadelphia today.

High Street Market Shop

Sorry for the lack of post yesterday.  My computer decided to crash.  I took the computer to Best Buys Geek Squad three times yesterday and every time they thought they had it fixed.  I would bring it home and it would have problems all over again.  We (the Geek Squad guys and I) decided that the computer needs to be shipped back to the manufacturer for some serious Dr. time.  I’m thinking blogging will be sporadic until I can get my baby back.

Anyway, on to happy news…Kelly, from the fabulous ETSY vintage shop – High Street Market, opened up an online store yesterday.  Every piece is more fabulous then the next.  I will definitely be using her shop as a resource for clients and for my own home.  Go check it out!

Everything is awesome!!

Fashion Friday: Cousin It

My mom lives in a beautiful home but it’s up in the hills.  With all the beauty of nature, comes the issue where rodents and varmints can come for a visit.  Sometimes she’ll have possums living on her roof, which requires a call to an expert to get them out.  The other day, I dropped by home after a client meeting and I was pretty sure mom had trapped and skinned such a little possum herself.  This is what I found laying on her vanity.

I asked her with disgust and intrigue what this hairy number was.  She said, “Oh, I went in to buy a hairbrush and I came out with this.”  Relieved this was not the DIY version, disgust turned into delight.  What could this little number be?  Mom immediately modeled it for me and I just had to snap a photo and share…

Fabu – mom – fabu!!  Obviously, I had to get into the “Cousin It” modeling and so I threw on top of the outfit I was wearing.

I’m thinking the leopard belt was overkill this time round.  What do you think?  It worked with the outfit I had on prior to Cousin It.  I love that mom bought Cousin It along with a hairbrush.  And for those of you who are local – she bought it at Peninsula Beauty – you would never guess it.  Now, I have to convince her to actually wear it out of the house.  Happy Friday!

Society Social

Have y’all seen the site Society Social? Those who are into color, you will die. It’s a mecca for color phenes…and get this, it’s an affordable mecca. Pop the pink bubbly ladies and let’s turn up the color…

So you want a pink sofa but not so sure how that future Mr. in your life will feel about it one day? How about only dropping $750 on it? That doesn’t feel quite as committal; please it’s Ikea pricing with Barney’s style.

While they don’t have picture proof, you better believe that you can order the marilyn sofa in pink with some navy piping. That’s right, my ladies, you can customize the piping and fabrics with a variety of choices that they provide for you.

Snakeskin bar cart. Oh how I want some faux python in my life. Strange, I know. Cause snakes do give me the creepy crawlies. But, their skin doesn’t (faux, of course).

Hop on over to Society Social and start living in color. 🙂 It just makes me so happy!

P.S. I’m using the chairs in the first shot in a project of mine; I can’t wait for them to arrive.  We’re either going for them in white or green.

Vacation Destination

Last night, over mom’s birthday dinner, we decided if we could, it would be great to get away for Christmas.  We haven’t travelled to a destination as an entire family in a very long time.  The last time we travelled just as a family, when everyone could make it, was probably Africa in 2004 (that was before my brother Joe and I were dating our spouses).  It gets difficult to travel with work schedules, grandkids, and pregnancies.  We discovered last night that this is one of those rare opportunities where everyone can get away and the kids are at great ages to travel.

We’re thinking warm.  We’re thinking not a long flight.  We’re thinking not crazy expensive.  We’re thinking chances are slim to get this whole thing pulled off by Christmas, but I’ll give it my best shot.  Any suggestions?  Hidden gems in Mexico? A fabulous home rental in Palm Springs?  I would love the help.  There are 14 of us in total (including 5 kids) so a home rental is probably the best bet.

I saw this awesome spot in Sunset Magazine…Rancho Pescadero

Happy Birthday to my Mom

Today is my Mom’s birthday and so I think it is of utmost importance that I dedicated a blog post to her.  After all, she does read every day no matter what.  Thanks, Mom!

Ever since Dad passed the most common question I get on the subject is, “How is your mom doing?”  I always let them know but I guess I don’t let her know.  I say, “She is an inspiration to me.  She has incredible strength that is built from a genuine feeling of gratitude for life and acceptance of what the world brings her way.”  It’s true.  I’ve been going through a personal hardship that really gets me down and I always try to remind myself of my mom. She is constantly teaching me to be thankful for what I do have and to trust in the goodness of the universe.  Amazing courage.  She is my hero.

But she is so much more than a hero; she’s my best friend.  She is a fantastic gabber and we love to go on adventures together.  Wether it’s sitting down for a quick lunch with a crossword puzzle or slipping down into quicksand in Namibia, we have an incredible time.  We giggle, we tell each other mostly everything and we push each other – as best friends should.

She is also more than a hero or a best friend, she’s my mother.  When I’m feeling extra sad about what life has dealt to me and I come home in a puddle of tears, Mom is there to wrap me up, put on the tea and listen.  She is my home base.

So to my mama who I love with all my heart, have a fantastic 66th birthday and I can’t wait to see you tonight!

Thinking Like Sarah

While blog surfing yesterday, trying to come up with a new post, I ran across some photos, on Rambling Renovators, of Sarah & Tommy’s (from HGTV’s Sarah’s House) latest project. I don’t actually watch their show, even though I really, really should because I absolutely love their style.  And now after seeing these shots, I’m convinced I need to be watching it…

I was thrilled to see the Dash and Albert rug in the room because that has been purchased for a client’s room.  Michele, if you’re reading this – I’m thinking these are some great inspiration photos.  I love that coffee table as well.  Does anybody know where it’s from?

For my client’s room, I was also encouraging a striped number included in the mix.  We decided to go with the bold stripe for the pillows on a flax linen sectional and perhaps a more subtle stripe for an accent chair.  The fabrics…

Happy to see we’re thinking like Sarah on this one.  Reveal photos will come when the room is done.
