Missed Opportunity

After lunch at Bumble, my mom, Graham and I headed over to the American Cancer Society resale shop in Los Altos to donate some things.  From the window display, I spotted a pair of amazing antique spindle twin bed frames.

Before we even walked in the door, I convinced my mom that she absolutely needed them for her little fishing lodge, up in Mount Shasta, where she has a pair of twin beds.  She was convinced.  We walked in and to my dismay there was a giant hold tag on them.  NO!!

They were asking $175 per bed.  What a steal!  We had discussed possibly painting them white or navy but they were in perfect condition as is.  We put a second hold and crossed our fingers.  Unfortunately, the first hold ended up buying them.  Damn!  They just slipped through our fingertips.  Here are some examples of why spool beds are the cutest thing ever…

I’m still a bit bummed about our loss but tis the nature of thrifting.  What do you think of the look?

Vintage spindle beds are definitely a great find! No need to lament the loss though, because you and your mom are definitely bound to find some other options soon!

I love those pictures! It makes a complete bed without looking hefty Too bad you didn’t get those, but I’m sure you’ll find something equally as awesome for Shasta!

Love love love the look! Maybe you’ll find an even better deal on some you can repaint that aren’t in such great condition. I think these are so cute for guest bedrooms or kids rooms!

I’m right there with you! I have many of these pictures pinned for inspiration in my twin girls’ room. Big, big fan of a spool bed here!

So, I’m new to your blog today. You mentioned Los Altos. Is that California? I’m in the Bay Area too!
