Featured Artist: Irene Wood

For the third artist I would like to feature in my Artist Series, I didn’t have to look very far.  I’m very lucky to be surrounded by talented people in my life.  Irene Wood has the kind of talent, personality and beauty that makes you want to hate her but you just can’t help but love her.  This woman is a talent machine and she’s the nicest, most supportive friend you could ask for.

Irene and I were roommates at Whitman College, where she was an art major.  After graduating and moving into the realm of full time artist, she focused on recurring forms in nature.  Irene likes to play with dichotomies in her pieces, combining Asian and western influences, traditional and modern, and the microscopic with the macroscopic.  These juxtapositions form unique, beautiful pieces; to me, they bring a sense of serenity evoked from time spent in nature.

I love her use of colors and geometric shapes.  This is her latest piece, which I adore, entitled “Above or Below, I Float” –

Not only are her paintings stunning, she is as well –

Sorry men, her heart is claimed to her perfect match.  I can’t wait for their wedding in two weeks!!

For more information on Irene, or to purchase one of her paintings, visit her website: here.

If you are a Bay Area blogger come on out for an event that my friend and blogger, Elisabeth of Mission: Closet, is hosting tonight at Kate Spade Grant Avenue store.  Check out more info on her blog, here.
