Weekend Recap

There was a reader request to share our babysitting experience this past weekend. I love reader requests and who can resist pictures of adorable children?! This past weekend, we babysat my two little nieces – ages 2 (almost three) and one. It definitely was a lot of work but most of all it was a ton of fun!

Please excuse the blurriness of these photos. I had ever intention of using our camera but could only ever remember to leave the house with my phone. That’s one thing I discovered, you can’t go anywhere without bringing loads of stuff for the kids.

On Saturday we went to a friend’s dinner party in Redwood City. Luckily, my friend has a two year old herself and all the kids got along swimmingly. Within seconds Elise went from shy behind my leg to best friends with Nellie.

The girls testing out Nellie’s soon to be baby brother’s crib.

On Sunday, Elise picked out her outfit for the day and we have a little fashionista on our hands. Check out her outfit – perfectly color coordinated with a nice pop of blue in her headband. Love this season’s essential – the faux fur vest.

In the morning we headed out to 24th Street in Noe Valley where Elise picked out cupcakes for her Dad’s birthday which was that day.

En route and back, the girls loved the roller coaster ride otherwise known as Uncle Graham’s crazy stroller pushing. They had huge smiles on their faces.

(Running around)

I gave Abby her bottle while walking around 24th street and I felt like an accomplished Aunt on the go, so much on the go, I didn’t think about my odd outfit ensemble (please ignore that).

We returned home just in the nick of time, before it started to pour rain. I then had the realization that kids need outdoors because they can feel cooped up easily. But Graham and I entertained them with coloring time and other games. Plus, we then had time for more photos –

Once the rain cleared up for a bit, we made a mad dash to the park where we could get some energy out before the rain started again. When we returned home, we had visitors; our little nephew Nico and his dad came over. Elise and Nico ran around the house having a great time playing games together. They were so active, I could never catch a non-blurry picture of them.

Then it was nap time….ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……quiet.

So quiet that I had a chance to take a quick photo of their living room. Isn’t it awesome?! I LOVE the dark chocolate walls paired with the white sofa (which has held up beautifully with two little ones); the pillows are Moroccan (from a trip they went on there – so jealous!) and the art piece was a gift from my dad.

The table lamp was their wedding gift from me from Simon Pearce.

After naps, Mommy and Daddy came home and we were all relieved to see them. Boy, we sure did have fun but we missed them!

Elise immediately wanted to give Daddy his birthday cupcakes that she picked out for him. So we quickly had a mini birthday party.

Elise picked out blue Hanukkah cupcakes for her daddy’s birthday; she loved the blue frosting!

Brittany, a very wonderful and smart Mommy took off Abby’s white shirt before she dug into the cupcakes, something I would have never thought of.

One last family photo before we head on out…

Miles and Brittany got us a nice bottle of wine as a thank you gift. We gladly accepted, and consumed the bottle with a home cooked meal and some soothing music – a big change in noise level – and then proceeded to sleep like little babies.

What a fun weekend!

You guys are naturals. Mom is right, “you are now ready.” Of course Elise and Abby are perfect angels and they don’t always come out that way . . . Thanks for sharing Kate.
