Sofa Colors

With the prospect of buying a new sofa, I have many decisions ahead of me to make.  One of the drawbacks of working in interior design is that I have access to too many choices.  But I do have time to ruminate on the many choices.  One big choice is what type of fabric to choose.  (I have not chosen the type of couch as of yet which also contributes to fabric choices).  I could go with a pattern….

White is always soothing to the eye and sophisticated

Or then there is the drama of a darker couch like one in chocolate or navy:

If I had my choice and my husband had absolutely no choice, I think I would bite the bullet and go pink…I always love the look –

We also have two gray barrel back chairs that will be going in the living room.  However those may not always be with the sofa and a brown and cream rug.  I will share pictures of both once I am back in San Francisco.  Yesterday, I was leaning towards brown or navy; today, I’m all about pattern. What do you think?

Don’t go white! We had one that we got in London and all we did was spill red wine and whiskey on it. And that was before children!

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I would only do white as a slip cover. I know myself to well to think I could keep it pristine white.

    Kate,

We went with a pattern on our first sofa and I eventually got very tired of the fabric even though I had loved it at the time. In our den we have had the same pattern for 15 years; when I finally get to recover it it is going to be raspberry from Clarence house.
I agree with Lindsay, white is so wonderful until you spill red wine and your children throw up on it.

Such a hard decision! I think you should go with a solid color. I have a patterened sofa that I loved when I bought it and now I’m sick of it. Plus, it makes it hard to add fun pillows to a couch with a pattern.
