Project 1: The Adler Chair

My first project was a chair that I found at our local salvation army. It was in the corner of the store – dusty, neglected and UGLY! Poor little chair was stuck in the 80’s (I think). But look at those bones…what fantastic lines!

Before: dusted off in the comfort of my home

This chair reminded me of a Jonathan Adler chair. It may not be one of his beautiful Chippendale chairs and I’m not Jonathan Adler but he was the inspiration. I would hope he would appreciate what I created. Once purchasing the chair for a whopping $10, I went searching for the best paint and fabric. I was looking for a mod-sixties inspired fabric and I found one that I loved at The Needle Shop in Bucktown – the BEST store ever! The fabric was peppy and I knew that I needed to follow Adler’s lead and make the chair a shiny white laquer. With a little (okay a lot) of TLC the chair was re-born…
