The Man, The Myth, The Legend

A few months ago, Kate and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr. Jonathan Adler, what a sweetheart! We attended the book signing of his latest and greatest, 100 Ways to Happy Chic Your Life, at his store on Fillmore St. in San Francisco.

Giddy with enthusiasm and slightly star struck by this design legend, we snatched up copies of the book and began flipping through this beautifully published hardback as fast as we could, only to feel a slight pang of disappointment. For whatever reason, it wasn’t what we were ‘expecting’, but isn’t that exactly what made Jonathan Adler exactly who is today? By giving the people what they’re not expecting. So once again, the old saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover” proves itself true.
Upon getting the book home, I realized Mr. Adler had done it again! The book is comprised of 100 tips on how to create a happy and unique home, the best part being how extremely tangible the advice is for all budgets, styles, and households. For those of you that dont own the book (yet), I wanted to share with you my favorite tidbits from his first 50 tips.
No 3. Have Breakfast in a Happy Place - Behold the power of the nook, have a place to get your morning bearings.
No 11. Maximalize the Bathroom – Treat it as a real room by adding lamps, flowers, or art.
No 24. Give Small Space Some Love - Take advantage of a nook, area between windows, or awkward corner and make an office!
No. 33 Patina is Priceless – Jonathan recommends choosing friends with a few dings, too.
No. 45 Reuse and Repurpose – Using objects for their unintended purpose brings and added element of surprise.
Maybe he’ll inspire you with a few simple changes like he did me?

Allie & Kate, Wonderful that you got to meet Jonathan; he’s such an innovator and his fresh take on the “60′s Vibe” is new again! Have several of his books, but not that one so I’ll find it soon. . . love the Adler Tips you chose to share; bravo!

Great post, Allie! We have put most of these tips in place in the remodel. Feels good to think we just might get the approval of the great Jonathan Adler! Also makes me want to read the rest of that book.
